Bitter Gourd (Karawila) Mellum
Empty the content of the packet in to a preparation bowl. Rehydrate by immersing in cold water for 30 minutes.
Mean time add the following to a food blender
- ½ a teaspoon of Salt
- 1 teaspoon of Black Pepper powder
- 1 teaspoon of Mustard powder
- 1 teaspoon of Cumin
- ¼ teaspoon of Turmeric powder
- 2 Green Chillies
- 2 Garlic Cloves
- 6 Curry leaves
- 2 pieces of Pandan leaves
- ½ a cup of grated Coconut, and blend together.
Now drain the soaked Karawila and put in to a cooking pot, add
- ½ a teaspoon of Salt
- ¼ a teaspoon of Turmeric
- 1 piece of Goraka
- Small piece of Cinnamon
- ½ a cup of Water
Mix well, cover and cook on medium heat until Karawila pieces are soft and fluffy. Then add the blended ingredients, mix well, cover and cook for further 5 minutes.
